Building a 21st Century Infrastructure – Kelly Carnes, TechVision21

Have you noticed that the tires on your car don’t stop wearing down while you’re deciding when to get new ones?

That potholes get bigger while political leaders debate when to fix them?  And, that more and more severe weather events across the country, no matter where you live, are leaving many without power or shelter, and isolated?

It’s been almost two years since the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) gave the U.S. infrastructure a grade of D+ on March 8, 2017.  Since then, more damage has been done to the infrastructure and more roads, bridges, power lines, water pipes, and subways have deteriorated, yet Congress has done nothing. Zero.

“Our communities and businesses depend on our network of roads, bridges, airports, rail, ports, and public transit to move people and goods safely, millions of American jobs are directly tied to the health of our infrastructure, and (w)e are approaching a transportation crisis in our country,” as Representative DeFazio stated it when he was elected the new Chairman of the  House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, now in Democratic control after the 2018 election.

Listen to Kelly Carnes, CEO and Founder of business strategy firm TechVision21 – and former Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Technology Policy – talk with Green Connections Radio host Joan Michelson about how the 21st century economy requires us to look at infrastructure differently. You’ll hear:

What a 21st century economy needs in its infrastructure. How to support a new manufacturing model – and the government’s role. Creating jobs with infrastructure – including clean energy-related jobs that can’t be outsourced. Where the funding opportunities might be in infrastructure spending.
